Originally MR2 stood for mid-ship runabout, later evolving into mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, and a number of other variants. Informally refered to as "Mister 2"
Turbo model (Import only for the UK market) known in the UK as "Tubby".
In France and Belgium the MR2 is called the "Coupe MR", because "MR2" in French would be pronounced "M-ER-Deux", which sounds a lot like the French "merde", or "shit"!
Australian MR2's come in two flavours, the "MR2 Bathurst" and "MR2 GT".
