In addition to reasons why you like the 3VZ how about some more information?
i) 3VZ weight compare to 1MZ ?
ii) Horsepower potential without forced induction?
iii) Which is easier to install?
iv) Although subjective how does a 1MZ drive compare to 3VZ given extra weight iron block etc?

A lot of your 1MZ tuning issues are related to the engine management. Any really serious person (I have on my 4AGZE setup) would ditch the stock management anyway. Its not designed with 'high performance' in mind and you cant get the best tune otherwise.
