Pulling Left Or Right

All cars pull to the left to some extent as a result of the camber on the roads in this country. However, anything more pronounced than a slight tendency can have a number of causes.

Things to check:

  1. Most obvious is tire pressure. MKIs seem to be extremely sensitive to tire pressure, and I can switch from an over-steering set up to under-steering just by changing the pressure in the front tires by a couple of pounds. Even a pound or two difference either side makes the car pull one way or the other quite substantially.
  2. Uneven tire wear can cause numerous handling problems. Next step is to find out why there is uneven wear.
  3. Four wheel alignment. Tracking isn’t enough, and many places can’t do all four wheels at once, but all main Toyota dealers are now obliged by head office to have four wheel alignment kit at their garages, and charge about an hours work.
  4. More ominous is the sticking brake syndrome.
