List of some of the more common terms used in this wiki FAQ. Additional info from MR2OC, Fixing Cars, GTFour.
3SGE: Name of the Japanese spec naturally aspirated 2ltr engine in the Mk2 MR2. USDM spec engines carried a different designation (5SFE). (Engine Models)
3SGTE: Name of the turbo charged engine on a Mk2 MR2. (Engine Models)
4AGZE: Name of the engine on a MKI supercharged. (Engine Models)
4AGE: Name of the engine in a MKI normally aspirated. (Engine Models)
AFM: Air Flow Meter, the flapper-door type sensor used to measure the incoming air to the engine.
A-pillar: Pillar that runs between the door and the windscreen.
ATF: Automatic Transmission Fluid.
AW11: Mk1 MR2 taken from the VIN.
BGB: Big Green Book. See Owners Manuals.
BHP: (Also HP) Brake Horsepower.
Boost: What happens when your supercharger or turbocharger kicks in. Measured in "kilo pascals" (kPa), "Barometric" (Bar), or "Pounds per Square Inch" (PSI). Increased boost pressure gives more power/torque each time a cylinder fires. NA engines run at atmospheric pressure.
BOV: Blow Off Valve. Vents excess boost, when not needed by the engine, into the atmosphere for the "Psssshhhhht" sound.
BPV: Bypass Valve. Vents excess boost, when not needed by the engine, back into the air intake.
B-pillar: Vertical pillar that runs between the back of the door and the small triangle window.
Cat: Catalytic Converter. Scubs nasty emissions from the exhaust.
Cam: Camshaft. Used to convert rotational motion into linear motion. Usually used in an engine to lift the intake and exhaust valves in the cylinder head.
C-pillar: Pillar at extending beyond the rear window next to the engine bay.
Dizzy: Distributor. Distributes power to each of the sparkplugs in the appropriate firing order.
DOHC: Dual Overhead Cam. Usually has one cam for intake and one cam for exhaust valves.
EBC: Electronic Boost Controller.
ECU: Electronic Control Unit.
Frunk: Front trunk.
#Grunt BoxGrunt Box: Modification that provides an increase in torque below 3500rpm on SC cars.
HG: Head Gasket. Seals the gap between the cylinder head and the engine block.
ITB: Individual Throttle Bodies.
JDM: Japanese Domestic Market. Refers to parts or cars produced and used in Japanese models.
LSD: Limited Slip Differential.
MAP: Manifold Air Pressure Sensor - used in some Jspec mr2 motors, measures the pressure of air inside the intake manifold, which the ECU can use to calculate how much air is being consumed.
MR2OC: USA forum for MR2 owners MR2 Owners Club.
NA: Normally/Naturally Aspirated (ie, not Supercharged or Turbo).
OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer.
PCD: Pitch Circle Diameter. The distance between the centres of the holes the wheel nuts sit in.
SC: Supercharged.
TPS: Throttle Position Sensor. Excellent write up at Needful Things.
TRD: Toyota Racing Development
TVIS: Toyota Variable Induction System. A set of butterflies in the intake tract that open at 4400rpm.
Turbo: Turbocharger. Produces boost by using host exhaust gas to spin a compressor turbine. Does not take engine power to run it like a Supercharger, but does take time to spin up. The stock turbo in a Mk2 MR2 is a CT26 which was originally used in some of Toyotas small trucks in the late 80's.
#Turbo LagTurbo Lag: The time it takes for a turbocharger to reach operating speed once the throttle is opened.
USDM: United States Domestic Market. Refers to parts or cars produced and used in US models.
