Originally MR2 stood for mid-ship runabout, later evolving into mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, and a number of other variants. Informally referred to as “Mister 2”

In France and Belgium the MR2 is called the “Coupe MR”, because “MR2” in French would be pronounced “M-ER-Deux”, which sounds a lot like the French “merde”, or “shit”!
Australian MR2’s come in two flavours, the “MR2 Bathurst” and “MR2 GT”.
