In order to prevent the threads on bolts from being stripped, the tightness (or torque) for every nut is specified in either foot/pounds or inch/pounds. Use a torque wrench to determine this with some accuracy.
Torque wrenches (skaughtto)
- Keep you from applying too much pressure to small bolts
- Keep you from applying too little pressure to large bolts
- Make sure you tighten multiple bolts evenly
- As with all bolts righty-tighty, lefty-loosey. Clockwise for tight, anti-clockwise for loose.
- The tightning direction of the wrench is usually adjusted at the end of the wrench, on the outside of the head.
- Never use a torque wrench to losen a bolt/nut.
- Always store at minimum setting.
- Never use them past their highest setting.
- Try to cycle them at the highest setting 3 times before torqueing a bolt.
- Never use an extension, unless you are good at math. As you increase or decrease the length of the wrench, the torque increases or decreases.
